    Motorsport @ The Palace

Last Bank Holiday weekend (29th to 30th May) was Sevenoaks and District Motor Club's second 'Motorsport at the palace' meeting at Crystal Palace.

Here are a few shots from Monday.

    1960 / 90 Mini

    1950 /56 HWM-Chevrolet

    2010 Smart Fortwo

    1969 Ford Anglia

All shot on an EOS 1D mk2n using an EF 80-200mm f/2.8 L

It was my first real day shooting with the 1D, the lens I have owned for years, been non USM it focuses relatively slowly but ( as I had hoped and expected) the 1D coped with it far better than my 5D has in the past .

Any comments or criticism welcome, if anyone is interested in the event there are more pictures in my Flickr.
    Regards

    Keith

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see the 'real' Mini and the Anglebox.

    Your kit did okay.

Great shots. I like the 'one locked, one turning' effect of the wheels on the Smart. Were you taking these in manual? Either way you've done a great job of getting the exposure right on the all-black Simon Taylor HWM - quite a difficult car to photograph. Nice effect on the wire wheels, too.

          Thank you all for looking.
The mini always was a bit of a go-kart and this one did not disappoint lifting the inner rear on cue.
So good to see an Anglia not posing as an extra for Harry Potter, I have not heard 'Anglebox' for over thirty years, my Uncle had one when I was in short trousers.
The Smarts were fun, but I missed the one that almost rolled into the first corner, out of the corner of one eye but I swear it was only on one wheel, or less!
The .2CR exposures were on AV or TV matrix(?) metering with a bit of compensation dialled in though I did come unstuck blowing the bonnets on some of the white cars, interestingly the 5D usually needed about -1/3 most of the time the old 1Dmk2n not so it's almost as though Canon calibrated the meters differently.
          Regards

            Hi Keith

Great set, and shows your panning skills are up there with the best.
Sorry comments are a bit late. But better late than never.

Thank you Paul, panning was a bit of a challenge, it been such a tight circuit the cars seem to always be slowing or accelerating on a conventional circuit the corners are a bit more free flowing and the cars a little easier to follow. Again because it was a slow circuit some of the shutter speeds were getting a bit long (1/150th sec. and slower @ 200mm ) just to try and get movement into the background and wheels.

BTW, I grew up in Market Weighton, just down the road from Beverley, so keeping an eye on your hu17 link.

Good luck with the FC coverage Paul, my family have always been big Tigers fans but I did see FC play a final at Wembly back in 1985 (ish and I can not for the life of me remember who the lost to ) I still have got relatives around the Beverley, Brough, South Cave areas thought I don't get up to Yorkshire that often, births, deaths and marriages that sort of thing.

no 1 for me. What a very sharp and clear photo. So little car, with so much speed in it.
                    With kind regards,
