    Shutter Life EOS450D

Hi, it's me again :) - still loving my new camera but still considering other lens options...anyway back on topic I'm snapping like a good 'un and am already up to nearly 1000 shots which is pretty keen after just a few days so that got me thinking about the Shutter Life of my new camera, any ideas? or am I just fretting about 'wearing out' my new toy?

Well, this is one of the few camera's from Canon where they DO NOT give a figure for the shutter life. Being a prosumer camera, one would expect it to be in the region of about 50,000, typical for this genre.

Thanks Lez! So say I take 1000 shot's a week which seems possible ATM but will no doubt taper that's 50 thousand weeks which is about 9 lifetimes so I think I'm OK... :) - I need to sort my maths out...it's actually 50 weeks isn't it...

That's a camera TCO of about 1p per photo ... now compare that with film days. Okay add in the rest of your kit ... but folk don't normally change lenses as often as bodies ... and that'll up TCO to say 2p. But that ain't bad. [I only look at such things when working on SWMBO to buy me something. Bit like mpg with cars ;-)]

OMG you are right! So after a year (1000 shots a week = 52k) the camera is knackered?

I think the 400D was quoting 100,000 when it came out, I'd have thought the 450D would be the same.

                      Re: Shutter Life EOS450D

I have had my 50d for a year now and done just over 10,000 shutter actuations. By the time the camera wears out I will probably be ready for an upgrade, so I am not going to get worried about it

Thanks for all the info. The actuations given in the links are the theoretical capabilities of each model. It is like saying that a Porche should do 250,000 miles. However, I would like to see or know the actuations if I am buying a second hand camera which would then be a guide to check against the theoretical guidelines. I think in this day and age of transparency, these details should be available on the camera LCD screen.

Brian, I agree with you as long as one buys a camera NEW. It is the buyer who starts off with a good/mint second hand camera, who would ideally like to know the actuations. The actuations will also enable those who wish to trade up to get a good price for their prized possession!

                            7D is rated at 150000 shutter-cycles.
