    Sigma 12mm-24mm Canon fit

I am very interested in the Sigma 12-24mm UWA as this will fit in nicely with my collection of lenses without any overlap. The only exceptions would be the nifty fifty and the pancake lens but these are primes.

I will appreciate it if members who have this lens or who have had this lens, give me their views.

    Many thanks

    Nat

But I think you'll find it 669g too heavy.

I have the old EX version of the lens. I bought it originally to give me a wideangle with the 10D, but have found it really good and useful on full frame - so much so that I don't really use my 17-40 L.
Please don't ask about my kit, it's embarrassing!

Thanks MK5 & Nick. I have looked at the other alternatives and find that only the sigma 12-24 IMHO is worth considering. I am aware of the weight & in comparison to the Canon 300mm f4L IS USM at 1200 grms, the Sigma is a "light weight". I am more interested in the IQ. As an aside, I have owned a Sigma 10-20 previously and find that it's colour rendition was excellent- very bright and vivid colours. So I presume that the 12-24 mkii will also give similar colours with the images. I am looking at the IQ with this lens. It is my intention to use this with my full frame body (5D Mk2) for landscapes, buildings and interiors of buildings.

A little déjà vu with that quote, sorry.
The Sigma 12-24mm is a DG designated lens which means it is suitable for both full-frame and crop cameras so can be used on the 5D2 and 60D.

Stephen, many thanks for this tremendous review. So it will be the Sigma 12-24. I know it is quite heavy in comparison with the other lenses but as I take my very heavy 300mm f4L IS USM lens (1200grms) on my wild life (esp birds), the Sigma is quite light weight. Will let you know when I do get one.

The reason behind me thinking of getting this one is the step up to ff although would not be for a while yet.

Chris, I will certainly post the pics once I get mine. I am sure I can buy one much cheaper that the £600 which is quoted. I do have some friends, contacts who due to the age factor are looking for lighter equipment. I have often got quite a number of my present lenses that way,in very good condition as well.

I might mention that an EF lens will always fit a crop camera and I have the 60D as well. So I will use the 12-24 on the 60D as well, where appropriate.

Ditto! It's really wide on full-frame.

                      Re: Sigma 12mm-24mm Canon fit

Hi, I've been using a Sigma 12-24 on a 5D II and have been quite impressed. It is a bit soft at the edges at 12mm (which is, after all, the end of it you want), and gives significant distortion (stretching everything at the corners particularly) which such a wide angle cannot avoid. There is an impressive absence of barrel and pin cushion distortion, I expected severe barrel at the 12mm end (as some earlier Sigma wide angle zooms), but there's none virtually. I like it. But I still secretly hanker after a Canon 14mm....

On the advice of another forum member I bought the Sigma 15-30mm f3.5-4.5 lens, the predecessor to the sigma 12-24 and find it is an excellent one. It is difficult to find as it is out of production now but you get the odd one advertised on Ebay. Very well worth the price at under £200.
