    Lens Aberation Correction

Been researching this after buying my 16-35 for use on my 5D3.

The Lens Registration Tool in 'EOS Utility' allows the addition of data for other Canon lenses

My understanding so far is this, so correct me if this isn't right:

These are only required if you shoot JPEG of use DPP to manage RAW files, Lightroom etc have their own profiles.

The 5D3 only has data for 27 lenses when shipped, some a strange selection. And the data for lenses with TC's isn't installed. These can be added with the utility, up to 40 sets of data can be stored, some existing can be deleted if space required.

Not sure exactly what other cameras need to have their stored data updated but 6D is certainly one.

I'm interested in your comment "Not sure exactly what other cameras need to have their stored data updated but 6D is certainly one."
I have a 6D but don't use DPP V4 for processing preferring Lightroom which, as you say, has its own profiles for most modern Canon lenses.

My understanding is that you can only apply these corrections to RAW files. I've just checked this & when I try to apply to a JPEG in DPP V4 it tells me 'Lens Data not available' although if you then ask for a download shows it as being installled - all a bit confusing.

Worth a bit more research I think!

The data has to be installed on the camera. Connect camera to PC and Eos Utility should launch (double click icon if not) then click 'lens aberration correction'. You'll see table and installed data is shown with blue ticks.

Now my understanding is that the data is used to correct in camera for jpeg but info attached to RAW that DPP can read.

        Re: Lens Aberation Correction

Of course I should say that the data only needs updating if you're using lens/TC that isn't already installed. And if you're using LR then won't make any difference.

          Beginning to make sense now.
I installed the data when I first got the camera but have never used it with DPP V4 which I find a bit slow compared to LR5.

OK, just connected my 60D to the PC, never done before, and the LAC data can be added for the lenses you own (with and without TC).

So kind of assuming this is something that can be added to most/all EOS DSLR.

Probably more of interest if you shoot JPEG or use DPP for processing RAW.
