Re-sizing

When I come to use the 'Save for Web' function in PSE it tells me 'The image exceeds the size Save for Web was designed for...'.
When I look at the properties of the images (and it's true of just about every photo I've taken with my 550D) they are on average; 5.5Mb 5184 X 3456 pxs 72dpi. Images that I've enhanced in PSE can be as big as 14.5Mb.

Am I using the wrong settings 'in camera'? What should I be re-sizing and to what size, please?

Your settings in camera are fine.

For the web, I use the crop tool to resize and have set up a crop tool for 800px wide and 100dpi. I leave the width open and constrain proportion switched on. If I post in Portrait format, I just switch the dimensions.
