    Content Aware Fill Photoshop CC

Yesterday Alan demonstrated the use of content aware move with his chaffinch but another useful feature of CC is content aware fill, which can be used for adding canvas to a shot. This is a quick basic edit of a pintail shot from today at Barnes and being so close he is a bit tight on the left of the frame

In older versions of photoshop, having added some blank canvas to the left, as the background is not plain, I would have to spend time cloning in the background extension. But in CC, make a selection of the blank canvas and then - edit, fill and click on the "contents" arrow in the box that appears and select the option "content aware" and make sure the box "colour adaptation is ticked, click OK and job done

on this one there is a slight duplication at the top but a couple of clicks with the clone tool will sort that

      Cheers Tom

Thought it was worth posting for those using CC and also available in the latest version of Elements

Good tip - thanks. I'm going to have to upgrade my computer soon - CC is struggling with my 4+ year old machine

I use it a lot and for the reason that Stan has highlighted. No longer will they say 'nice but it's to close to the edge' or similar. Obviously depends on the complexity of the section you want to extend.
